Brazil is a country of continental dimensions and a major exporter of commodities. Rail transport is very competitive in the transport of this type of cargo, with large volumes and with producing centers far from the ports. With the function of maintaining speed and providing emergency stops on trains, the brake system has in the control valve set its main component. Thus, the operation of the set within the parameters defined by the railroad and its reliability are closely linked to the correct definition of the period of its maintenance plan. This paper presents an LDA study of the service and emergency valves, which make up the set of valves used in GDE wagons used for iron ore transportation, analyzing their reliability and providing support for review of the maintenance strategy including its periodicity. The study used real maintenance data registered in the computerized system, where maintenance orders and notes were analyzed and classified according to their nature to define the data type. Weibull ++ 11 software was used to apply statistical models and analysis of pdf curves and reliability. These values were compared to the current strategy and thus suggested changes in the periodicity of the preventive maintenance plan. It was concluded that the periodicity of the preventive plan can be changed from 75 months to 96 months, without compromising fleet reliability objectives.pt_BR
