Requalificação da rua da Cidadania do Boa Vista: a promoção da prática da cidadania através do equipamento público

Abstract

This research aims to understand the interaction between citizens and their public space, which has political-administrative functions in Curitiba. The peculiar public space, the Ruas da Cidadania of Curitiba has as main role in contributing to the democratization of citizenship by facilitating access to services from several public spheres. It is acknowledged by architectural arrangements which carry marks that tells the history of the city's decentralization. These memories have been shaped under the same spatial configuration since 1997. The public space still serves as stage for social interactions, but it runs through different scripts because of the new standards for social exchanges within the public space. This object of study, Rua da Cidadania do Boa Vista, fulfills its role in establishing actions and providing services to the citizens. However, the spatial configuration integrity of this public institution - which has been keeping the same layout since its implementation - offers limited possibilities whereas it faces the imminent need for expansion and barely instigates permanency and appropriation from citizens. The proposal of requalification broken down into two paths, the reorganization of existing space, to reactivate the equipment and the implementation of the new annex, to support equipment expansion demand.
