Museu da Fotografia Cidade de Curitiba - PR (MFCC): o processo de produção, circulação e consumo do acervo (1996-2020)

Abstract

This research is about the production, circulation, and consumption process of the collection of the Museum of Photography of the City of Curitiba – PR between 1996 and 2020. By crossing documents and theoretical frameworks, my intention was to describe collection formation strategies, organization of exhibitions and photographic activities, publishing and editing catalogs and triggering images. Therefore, I mapped a circuit made up of people, spaces, events and materialities, describing and analyzing ways these, through the museum, constituted meanings about photography. Along this path, I found in public collections, a varied typology of documents with fragments and clues about activities related to the museum. I argue that to understand such practices, it is necessary to recognize that photographs, as artifacts, move and circulate around the world, are organized, appropriate, produce relationships and give meaning to social life. Based on this understanding, in which the notions of material culture and visual culture are pertinent, it is possible to reflect not only on the meanings that photographs trigger, but also on images, an important dimension for the recognition of the multiplicity of the field of national photography and, mainly, of the Curitiba city photography field.
