Abstract

Assuming that tourism is an activity that occurs on a global scale and local, will portray the importance of tourism for revenue generation in the city of Itanhaém (SP). As well as seeking to identify the actions of public policies for tourism and these can reach the most varied strata of society, and if the revenues from tourism circulate equitably, not forgetting the ecological, social, cultural to be considered in the final result. The local tourism development is a process of internal change, which leads to economic dynamism and improvement of quality of life in small units. However to be consistent and sustainable local development must mobilize and exploit local potential, contributing to increase social opportunities and competitive viability of the local economy, and at the same time have to ensure the conservation of local natural resources, which are based their potential and conditions for the local quality of life. This development usually requires an internal involvement of the local society, exploring their own abilities and potential.
