Abstract: This work deals with the energy optimization in commercial buildings in Portugal, whose main objective is to present measures that can reduce the energy consumption of a supermarket located in Tomar, using Revit® software to execute the dynamic energy simulations, and daylighting strategies to control the natural lighting in the building, through passive and active solutions. The bibliographical review presents the following subjects: history of the energy legislation of the European Union and of Portugal; dynamic simulation of buildings; BIM methodology; Revit® software; Green Building Studio®; energy optimization strategies in buildings; strategies for controlling daylighting; and some technical systems used in natural lighting strategies. The energy optimization measures proposed for the supermarket were focused on energy conservation, starting from modifications in the building elements of the building, management of technical systems such as lighting and air conditioning, and the possibility of producing photovoltaic electric energy. After obtaining the results related to the energy optimization proposals through Revit® software, and comparing them with some results obtained through the Trace® 700 software, it can be stated that it is possible to reduce the energy consumption of the supermarket, however, for the implementation of some energy optimization measures, it is necessary to carry out economic feasibility studies and lighting technicians, and due to some limitations found in Revit®, as not allowing the user to specify the air conditioning equipment, it is recommended to use other software to execution of dynamic simulations to obtain specific results, such as Trace® 700 or EnergyPlus®.
