Praça Rui Barbosa: em busca da atmosfera da praça

Abstract

Understanding the plazza as the place of reunion and meetings, the present study pretends to rescue the athmosphere of the Rui Barbosa Square, at Curitiba. The historic plaza, at the center of the city, holds since the 70’s, the biggest modal terminal of the municipality. The hypothesis suggests that the aggregation of new uses and functions to the square, would redeem its function of quality leisure space, adding benefits to the city of Curitiba and its population. This work discusses the concept of public space, definition of squares, historical analysis of the square space, the relevance of the square in the master plans of Curitiba, the history of Rui Barbosa Square as well as the analysis of its reality, to define guidelines that result in the use of the square as a space of permanence.
