Casa Dandara: centro de apoio para população transexual e travesti em Curitiba

Abstract

The present research focuses on the population of transsexuals and transvestites in Curitiba and the use of architecture as an instrument of social assistance and reinsertion. The paper presents a brief context on the topic, identifying the main terms and concepts, and highlights the frightening Brazilian reality when it comes to violence against transsexuals and transvestites, as well as bringing other shocking data, such as the average age of expulsion from home and the percentage of the this population that uses prostitution as a source of income. Brief notions of environmental psychology are presented to support the proposal of a restorative architecture that assists in the well-being of its users. Through the analysis of the case studies it is possible to perceive that this type of equipment exists and works in Brazil, however, they use leased and improvised spaces, and there is no architectural design of reference with the same proposal. Therefore, case studies of different uses were analyzed, with the aim of aggregating all of them in the creation of a project for a host complex: a clinic, a transit house and a community center. Add to this research meeting with the NGO from Curitiba that works in support to the trans people of Paraná. The interviews were carried out with the purpose of understanding the projects that being executed by the organization, the on-site needs of the population, which would be the ideal spaces in the conception of the project and where would be the most favorable location for its implementation. The analysis of the surroundings and the constraints, the elaboration of the necessities program, flow chart and of an occupation plan will aid in the design of this equipment. In conclusion, is proposed a support center for the transsexual and transvestite population in Curitiba’s Downtown, consisting of a clinic focused on the health problems that this population faces; a house of passage for the LGBT+ public, with a focus on trans people; and a community center open to the general public to promote a platform of professionalization and well-being through occupational therapy for trans people, in addition to socialization with the community, breaking stigmas and encouraging the acceptance of this population by society.
