Abstract

This study seeks to identify channels of communication and management tools for prevention and mitigation of fraud, illegal activity and unethical behaviour in professionals and companies related to engineering services and construction. This, however, is one of the sectors most affected by corruption, which crime destroys lives and hopes of society. To analyse the occurrence of illegal and unethical behaving, and the level of knowledge in communication tools, a qualitative research was conducted in a field survey with interviews to professionals as engineers, technicians and architects who responded a questionnaire about irregularities experienced in their workplace. The analysis of the interviews showed that companies in the sector need to mature and harden their anti-fraud and bad behaviour by improving managing communications and ombudsmen policies. It was found that professionals need greater knowledge and confidence in communication channels to feel encouraged to contribute to internal and external investigations of wrongdoing.
