Abstract

Frame Relay is a fast packet switching technique created in the late 1980s by Bell Labs, later evolving into an independent network service, with standards and recommendations developed by international telecommunication bodies, a nonmultiplexed service reliable because it does not offer confirmation of delivery, however, higher layers of software offer this reliability, and there is security that the frames are delivered in the order in which they are transmitted. In the Frame Relay network, Permanent Virtual Circuits are established, seen by the tips as dedicated network channels, allowing bandwidth sharing among several users, each frame containing all the necessary routing information between the tips, besides having the flexibility to create new Virtual Circuits, which reduces costs with the network, unlike what happens in private lines, where for each point-to-point connection a different contract is required.
