Limites e possibilidades de um programa de gerenciamento de resíduos sólidos em uma instituição de ensino: o caso da UTFPR, Câmpus Curitiba

Abstract

The urban and industrial areas produce a lot of waste. These, if disposed of improperly favor the development of disease vectors and cause environmental degradation. The Federal Technological University of Paraná - Curitiba Campus is considered a great generator of waste, and like the other educational institutions, has sought to manage them properly through a program designed for this purpose. However, the waste management needs improvement to prevent damage to the environment and community. Therefore, this paper analyzed and proposed measures to contribute to this adaptation. Data were collected about the waste of UTFPR since its segregation to its final destination, there was applied the PGRS and conducted an interview with the General Services staff. There was verified the forms of segregation and storage of waste and proposed improvements. The Department of General Services is currently responsible for the advances that are going to store what is generated in the institution. Various activities are taking place in favor of management, but improvements are needed. The cleaning staffs contribute positively because they know the procedures to be worked out, but the training is indispensable. Not only to the cleaning staffs, but to all publics of the University. Thus, there will be collaboration between the sectors and progress in the waste management. Support from top management is critical to appropriate process of waste including the knowledge of the subject, trained staff and increased staffing.
