A fluidez da sexualidade em contos de Mia Couto

Abstract

The presented survey is based on the understanding that sexual orientation is an intricate, changeable, and uncertain phenomenon of human behavior. The purpose of this work is to verify in Mia Couto’s short stories "A filha da solidão" (COUTO, 1997: 36-39), "O amante do comandante" (COUTO, 2006: 123-128), “As três irmãs” (COUTO, 2009: 11-15) and “Sapatos de tacão alto” (COUTO, 1996: 79-83) the existence of Sexul Fluidity based on Freud’s Sexual Theory and Foucault’s premises about the “History of Sexuality”. Moreover, the common western schema of judgment based on sexaulity will be contrasted by how homossexuality is evidenced in the literary corpus through the presented theories. Besides that the symbols and the conduct of the main characters will be juxtaposed with other characters and their reactions facing non-normative aspects of sexuality. Lastly, these reactions will be investigated to ascertain if there are differences between the colonized and the colonizer behaviors as a consequence of sexual orientation. Sexuality as a fluid phenomenon of the human behavior is proved by the comparative analysis presented in this work. To sum up, is important to comprehend a certain more about the human nature involved by sexuality as a way to dissolve the patriarchal oppression.
