| dc.description.resumo | This study examines the aerodynamic performance of the NACA 2412 airfoil under icing conditions to assess its behavior in adverse weather scenarios. Ice accumulation on aircraft wings presents significant challenges to aviation safety and efficiency, impacting lift, drag, and overall flight performance. Utilizing the rhoPorousSimpleFoam solver within the OpenFOAM framework, this research simulates airflow and ice distribution on the airfoil, focusing on lift and drag coefficients. The study employs a C-shaped mesh configuration extending 15 chord lengths upstream and 20 chord lengths downstream to ensure precise results. The numerical simulations reveal that ice formation reduces the lift coefficient by up to 4.37% at 0° angle of attack and 3.12% at 12°, while increasing the drag coefficient by approximately 17.54% at 0° and 12.11% at 12°. These findings corroborate with existing literature, emphasizing the significant impact of ice on aerodynamic performance. Preliminary results also suggest modifications in pressure coefficients and airflow patterns, highlighting the intricate relationship between ice formation and aerodynamic behavior.
