Google Places Enricher 2.0

Abstract

This technical report describes the technical production developed called Google Places Enricher 2.0, an improved version of the Google Places Enricher tool. The first version was created with the goal of facilitating the use of the Google Places API and enriching the retrieved data with categories from other systems, such as Yelp. Its purpose is to assist in determining parameters and composing multiple API calls, in addition to providing the opportunity to enrich the data through analysis and comparison with another chosen database. However, the initial version requires technical knowledge to configure files, install libraries, and execute commands, which could hinder its use by people without computing experience. With the implementation of Google Places Enricher 2.0, these difficulties were overcome through the development of a web application using the Flask framework. The new version allows users to configure and use the tool more easily, without the need to edit text files or run commands. The development involved the creation of a web interface that simplifies the configuration and task execution process, while maintaining the data enrichment functionality and correlation with other databases. The results show that the new version facilitates the use of the tool, making it more accessible to a broader audience. It is concluded that Google Places Enricher 2.0 fulfills its goal of simplifying the use of the Google Places API and enriching the retrieved data. This report presents in detail what was developed, the technologies involved, a tutorial on how to use the tool, and the results.
