Compreensão oral e o inglês como língua franca na plataforma inglês - Paraná

Abstract

This paper addresses the teaching strategies for English language listening com-prehension skills, in light of the guidelines established by the National Common Curri-cular Base (BNCC), on the Inglês Paraná platform. The BNCC redefines English as a lingua franca, acknowledging the linguistic and cultural diversity of speakers around the world. In the State of Paraná, the "Inglês Paraná" platform emerges as a recently adopted didactic resource, promoting teaching through the use of technology. Howe-ver, the implementation of this platform raises questions about its structure and align-ment with the principles of the BNCC. Considering the importance of English in the global context, the research proposes a critical analysis of the platform, focusing on oral comprehension led by the material recommended for the 9th grade of elementary school. The research adopts a qualitative approach, using the "Inglês Paraná" platform as the primary data source. The methodology includes document analysis, literature review, and consideration of relevant educational theories. The objective is to unders-tand how the specificities of English as a lingua franca and oral comprehension are conveyed on the platform, in light of the BNCC guidelines, through the analysis of cog-nitive and metacognitive strategies, the concept of accommodation, and, finally, the presence or absence of the intercultural dimension in the activities proposed by the platform. Furthermore, with a view to contributing to a broader understanding of the challenges faced in English teaching, the research emphasizes the importance of alig-ning digital didactic resources with educational guidelines for teaching English in basic education.
