Amrik: a vinda dos imigrantes libaneses para o Brasil no final do século XIX e a identidade feminina

Abstract

The corpus in this work of literary analysis is the contemporary novel Amrik (1997), by Ana Miranda. The work deals with a historical fiction narrative that intends, through the reconstruction of fictional memory, to describe the arrival of Lebanese immigrants to Brazil at the end of the 19th century. The analysis will be based on the portrayal of the identity construction process of the character Amina, who recalls her trip to the country, starting social constructions not experienced in the village where she lived in Lebanon. In front of the other, she starts to see herself, to recognize herself in such a way that this in-betweenness lived in a new space-time gives the opportunity to transgress the image she has of herself and the other. To this end, questions about cultural identity and representation, as well as diaspora, orientalism and female subalternity, will be the basis of this investigation of how the identity process happens, how it happens, how it is perceived and recognized by the protagonist character.
