Discursos racistas nos livros didáticos do ensino fundamental II

Abstract

The objective of this research is to investigate if there is presence of racist discourses in history and portuguese language books of Elementary School II, from the sixth to the ninth grade. The history books are from the collection: “Historia, Sociedade e Cidadania", by Alfredo Boulos and the Portuguese language books are from the collection: "Tecendo Linguagens" by the authors Tania Amaral Oliveira and Lucy Aparecida Melo Araújo. Both books were published in 2018 and distributed to public schools for the 2020-2023 cycle by the: “Programa Nacional do Livro Didático” (PNLD). For the theoretical analysis and concepts from the works of the authors Althusser (1980), Florêncio (2009), Chaui (2004), Orlandi (2015), Bakhtin (2006), among others which lead the interpretation taking language and ideology as social constructions. The study was elaborated from bibliographic and documentary research, in a qualitative approach in order to understand the discourses analyzed in detail. The research proved that there are certain references to the figure of the black man and his culture within the materials cited. However, most of these representations are shallow and superfluous, which still contributes to negative and prejudiced views. It is recommended that publishers be more careful during the creation of the statements and a review of the discourses present in the books. The understanding that we must have teaching materials with adequate representations is fundamental to anti-racist teaching.
