Gerenciamento de redes de computadores utilizado CACTI: um exemplo em ambiente virtual

Abstract

Computer networks are present in most associations, whatever their size and segment of activity. These resources provide the possibility of transporting a large amount of information, integration between its internal areas, wide coverage in the geographical aspect, communication with partner organizations, contact with the customer, among others. Weighing also, a convergence between voice, data and image services that has become a reality in recent years, the need for an increasingly efficient monitoring of the functioning of the infrastructure that supports all this has intensified. The aspects exposed above, allowed the option for the present theme and more specifically for the performance management area of a network. In this study, an eminently practical approach was adopted, in order to use a network availability monitoring tool, CACTI, in a virtual machine and use this virtual machine in the GNS3 network application. Throughout the text, consult the installation, configuration and operation process of the instrument under study, showing its features. In the tests performed, an Oracle VirtualBox application, the Linux operating system, was used in the Debian distribution. This is the first step: to show a practical approach to some of the concepts involved, an integration of the virtualization and simulation environment management tool and the use of free software as a means of optimizing resources. With that, you can define how, in some way, to facilitate the interested parties, to introduce the theme.
