| Resumo: | O presente trabalho monográfico analisa as traduções brasileiras “O baile da Morte Vermelha” (GONÇALVES, 2017) e “A máscara da Morte Rubra” (MENDES; AMADO, 2000) do conto “The Masque of the Red Death” (POE, 1842), no que tange à transposição dos seus elementos góticos e fantásticos, tão singulares na obra originária do autor. Para tal, as questões tradutórias são examinadas com base na teoria de polissistemas, desenvolvida por Itamar Even-Zohar (1990), que trata da gama de relações intra e inter-sistêmicas existentes no texto. Os aspectos referentes ao gótico e ao fantástico são analisados nos textos fonte e alvo, com o auxílio do trabalho de Macy (1907) e Asselineau (1970) – quanto à biografia do autor – e, no que condiz literalmente à estética predominante em seus textos, tem-se Vax (1965), Todorov (1975), Philippov (2004), Roas (2014), Botting (1995) e Savoy (2002), a fim de verificar a configuração dessa transposição. Outro ponto de relevância deste estudo é a comparação entre traduções do conto, a partir dos textos de André Lefevere (1992), Susan Bassnett (1985), Lawrence Venuti (2002), José Lambert (2011), e, majoritariamente, o modelo descritivo compilado por Lanzetti (et.al., 2009). Esses embasam a pesquisa, por meio de seus postulados teóricos que versam sobre a tradução prosaica, e as tendências à domesticação e à estrangeirização. Assim, o objetivo desse trabalho foi investigar e comparar o modo como as traduções propiciam o contato do leitor com a obscuridade, o horror, o sobrenatural na obra de Edgar Allan Poe, verificando aspectos estéticos literários, lexicais, estilísticos e linguísticos no texto de chegada. Tendo em vista que a primeira tradução foi realizada no ano 2000 e a segunda em 2017, o resultado da pesquisa revela que ambas as reescritas são tanto domesticantes quanto estrangeirizantes e, de fato, houve a transferência dos elementos fantásticos de cunho gótico do texto - fonte para os textos - alvo. |
| Abstract: | This monography analyzes the Brazilian translations “O baile da Morte Vermelha” (GONÇALVES, 2017) and “A máscara da Morte Rubra” (MENDES; AMADO, 2000) of the tale “The Masque of the Red Death”, as related to the transposition of its gothic and fantastic elements, so singular in the original work of the author. For that, the translation issues are examined based on the Theory of Polysystems, developed by Itamar Even-Zohar (1990), which deals with the range of intra and inter-systemic relations existing in the text. The aspects referring the gothic and the fantastic are analyzed in the source and target texts, with the help of the work of Macy (1907) and Asselineau (1970) – as for the biography of the author – and, in what literally corresponds to the predominant aesthetic in its texts, we have Vax (1965), Todorov (1975), Philippov (2004), Roas (2014), Botting (1995) and Savoy (2002) in order to verify the configuration of this transposition. Another relevant point of this study is the comparison between translations of the tale, from the texts of André Lefevere (1992), Susan Bassnett (1985), Lawrence Venuti (2002), José Lambert (2011), and, the descriptive model compiled by Lanzetti (et.al., 2009). These bases the research, through its theoretical postulates that deal with the prosaic translation, and the tendencies to the domestication and the foreignization. Thus, the purpose of this work was to investigate and compare how the translations provide the contact of the reader with obscurity, horror, and the supernatural in the work of Edgar Allan Poe, verifying literary-aesthetic, lexical, stylistic and linguistic aspects in the target text. Considering that the first translation was carried out in the year of 2000 and the second in 2017, the result of the research reveals that the rewrites both show signs of domestication and foreignization, and, in fact, the transfer of the fantastic elements with gothic nature from the source text to the target texts can be attested. |
