Abstract

This research brings children's literature focused on the Nowadays child, focusing on the representation of the theme death in the literary texts chosen. It is considered important to establish a dialogue between books and children, parents and educators. It is understood that death is part of the lives of all people, as a cycle: born, live and die. Since death is natural and it is not up to us to determine when it may be present, it is also necessary for children to face this fact and to understand that their feelings are not alien to the reality of other people. As a theoretical reference for this study, psychologists, pedagogues and scholars of this area, counting as main: Coelho (2000), Lopes (2013), Zambeli (2014) and Paiva (2014), where a survey is made on literature childhood and on the issue of death, especially impacting on the child. The analysis proposal was thought from the theme, searching for contemporary books that talked about death openly for children, in different aspects, such as illustration, language, structure and context. The texts were chosen carefully, being all contemporary and that approach the subject without taboos, being of different works; one works on the theme in a more comical way, one with a sadder bias, and a third that brings the issue of mourning. They are two short stories "The thoughts of the withered bladder" (2001) and "The bear and the mountain cat" (2008) and the "Sextilhas to die" (2011) all bring the theme of death in a clear way for the children. We realize that the works cover the theme by bringing the word death in the text or through metaphors or connotative and denotative language, highlighting different illustrations, and the characters are to present in general with both animals and inanimate beings, representing people. The three books address the issue of death in a natural way. The first text brings the character Belinda, who has her life, with human feelings, where her life is to describe and later her death. The second book (2008) deals with the part of mourning, loss and friendship, and the third book (2011) is a poetry in the form of sextilhas, where it approaches the theme in all the verses in a comic way.
