Pint of Science como festival de divulgação e cultura científica

Abstract

Pint of Science appeared in 2012 in London and today is the largest non-formal science outreach event, taking place annually in bars and pubs around the world, simultaneously for three straight nights. In the meantime, the present study addresses scientific dissemination as enhancement of scientific culture, to the detriment of the recurrent discredit to science denounced by the cuts in scientific-technological research and education. Thus, we aim at actions that contribute to incorporate the general society into the academic environment, corroborating a better understanding of the activities developed in the institutions. Therefore, the objective of this work is to evaluate Pint of Science in 15 cities of Southern Brazil, which are Alegrete, Bento Gonçalves, Blumenau, Criciuma, Curitiba, Florianópolis, Foz do Iguaçu, Joinville, Londrina, Maringá, Novo Hamburgo, Passo Fundo, Porto Alegre, Santa Maria and Ponta Grossa, as an effective tool for scientific dissemination in non-formal environments. The methodology used was mixed, qualitative and quantitative, and exploratory; Form and questionnaire were used to collect data. It acquired a qualitative character as it sought to interpret the effectiveness of the festival as a means of disseminating science, and outlining possibilities for better use of the festival. It was configured as quantitative through the specific objectives that require the survey and description of data about the festival's popularity in Ponta Grossa, Paraná and the analysis of the profile of the audience that participated in the festival in the cities of southern Brazil. The present research related the data obtained with other festival reports, aiming to contribute to improvements for the next events. Finally, we sought to find possible solutions provided by the festival in science education that corroborate the demystification of science, and favor the development of scientific culture.
