Abstract

The accounting offices are constantly recruiting new professionals, therefore they must be qualified to meet the existing demands. Based on this premise, this study aims to identify the skills of an accounting professional from the perspective of the owners of the accounting offices from the city of Pato Branco-PR. The research was carried out based on the questionnaire adapted from Cardoso (2006) and Silveira (2013), applied to the owners of the accounting offices, or to their respective representatives when hiring new professionals. Regarding the objective of this research, it is characterized as descriptive, the procedure is characterized by survey and the approach is qualitative and quantitative. The result of the research pointed out that the skills most sought after by the owners of the accounting offices in hiring an accountant are: knowledge mainly focused in the areas of tax, labor, managerial and financial; Skills, they are: initiative, interpersonal relationship, flexibility for change and leadership; And attitudes: responsibility, dedication, punctuality and cooperation. In addition to the aforementioned competencies, it was found that continuing education and professional experience are also important requirements for an accounting professional.
