Abstract

This paper aims at presenting a bibliographical revision about the men ́s health, masculinity and poverty. That is, this paper seeks to understand some contradictions between primary access to health in local of poverty conditions and the construction of masculinity. The main idea is to produce some reflection take into consideration that the illness can represent a damage to men ́s masculinity in to two principal aspects – sociocultural aspect and economic aspect. In relation to social and cultural aspects, there are symbolic and ideological assumptions related to the idea of no access by men to health treatments, framed on concepts such usknowledge, values, attitudes and popular trusts which determine that men should be strong and they do not need specific health care. In relation to economic aspects, the poverty condition can determine or not the men ́s access to the health public policies.
