Abstract

This work presents a discussion about the most useful techniques on the Reliability analysis and modeling applied in the aeronautical maintenance sector. Initially, considerations regarding the aeronautical maintenance sector are presented, followed by the concepts in the Reliability Engineering field, as well as the main characteristics the reliability analysis applies to components in service. In order to verify the utility and practical applicability of the reliability methods discussed specifically for the aeronautical maintenance, it is presented a study based on data from a certain system that has shown unavailability in service, creating high operating costs due ceasing profits and customer dissatisfaction. Using reliability data it is possible to determine the optimum time to perform a preventive maintenance task, instead of keep going with corrective actions. On the present study, the implementation of a preventive task represents a cost reduction of 75% in the current model, directly affecting the ceasing profits and customer satisfaction.
