| Resumo: | O presente trabalho de conclusão de curso desenvolveu uma análise descritivo-comparativa de duas traduções da obra Pride and Prejudice, de Jane Austen. Analisaram-se as traduções de Lúcio Cardoso, publicada em 1982 pela editora Abril Cultural, e outra realizada por Roberto Leal Ferreira de 2015, publicada pela editora Martin Claret. Os objetivos deste trabalho foram: investigar aspectos dos costumes das mulheres do século XIX de forma a revelar o contexto social de produção da obra de partida; analisar a constituição das personagens femininas por meio do enredo, das construções linguísticas e escolhas lexicais do texto originário; apresentar a crítica preconizada por Jane Austen para a sociedade inglesa por meio dos relatos dos costumes patriarcais da época; verificar a transposição dos elementos críticos e da configuração das personagens por meio do contraste entre o texto de partida de Jane Austen e as duas traduções elencadas para esta pesquisa. Assim, foi possível analisar a transposição da configuração das personagens femininas da obra Pride and Prejudice, de Jane Austen, nas duas traduções aqui elencadas. Para o desenvolvimento deste estudo, utilizou-se dos pressupostos teóricos elaborados por Itamar Even Zohar (1990) e sua Teoria dos Polissistemas, de José Lambert e Hendrik Van Gorp (2006) e seu esquema para análise de traduções. Os postulados de Andre Lefevere (1992) serviram de base para discussões acerca da tradução como uma reescrita. Por fim, verificou-se que as traduções da obra Pride and Prejudice analisadas apresentam características marcantes tanto da domesticação como da estrangeiriação, e que, inseridas no polissistema literário brasileiro, servem de relato da situação vivenciada pela mulher inglesa no século XIX. |
| Abstract: | The present final paper “The transposition of Women’s role in translations of Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen” has developed a descriptive-comparative analysis about two translations of the work Pride and Prejudice, by Jane Austen. The translations were one written by Lúcio Cardoso, published in 1982 by Abril Cultural, and the other was made by Roberto Leal Ferreira in 2015, and published by the publisher Martin Claret. The objectives of this work were: to investigate aspects of the customs of the nineteenth century women in order to reveal the social production context of the source text; to analyze the constitution of the female characters through the plot, linguistic constructions and lexical choices of the source text; to present the criticism reported by Jane Austen for English society through the patriarcal behaviors of that time; to verify the transposition of the critical elements and the configuration of the characters in order to contrast the source text of Jane Austen and the two translations listed for this research. Thus, it was possible to analyze the transposition of the female characters in Pride and Prejudice, in the two translations listed here. For the development of this study, the theoretical assumptions elaborated by Itamar Even Zohar (1990) of the Polissystems studies, by José Lambert and Hendrik Van Gorp (2006) and their scheme to analyse the translations. The postulates of Andre Lefevere (1992) served as the basis for discussions about translation as rewriting. Finally, it was verified that the translations of Pride and Prejudice analyzed here showed marked features of domestication and the foreignization, and that, when they got inserted in the Brazilian literary polysystem, they served as a report of the situation experienced by english women in the nineteenth century. |
