A relação entre a memória de trabalho e a compreensão leitora em língua inglesa como segunda língua

Abstract

This paper intends to review a number of studies that deal with L2 reading process and working memory capacity. Since reading is knowingly crucial to individuals’ social, cultural and intellectual development, and considering the possible difficulties in reading in English when this is a second Language for the reader, it seems to be of highly relevant to map and analyze the studies that examine L2 reading process in order to understand how it occurs, as well as the factors that influence reading with a view to making it a more effective, fruitful and critical act. Bearing that in mind, the present study was conducted by means of bibliographical research, mapping studies from a series of authors considered seminal in the aforementioned areas, as well as more up-to-date research focusing on deepening the understanding working memory and its relationship with the reading process. In conclusion, many studies have already been carried out on the importance of the topic addressed in this paper. To do so, a bibliographic analysis will be carried out, mapping studies of different authors of the mentioned areas, to the development of a detailed analysis of what we already know and what still of what we still need to do to get ahead in the purpose of a proficient reading comprehension in Language English as L2.
