Ingratidão filial: análise da tragédia shakespeariana por intermédio dos enredos de Lear e Gloucester em Rei Lear

Abstract

The present work has as objective to analyze the play King Lear of the world-famous and acclaimed poet and playwright William Shakespeare. For this, it will be used the version translated by Millôr Fernandes (1997). Through the analysis of the play, which presents parallel plots, we intend to verify what these plots have of similar themes and events, in what moments can be verified the elements concerning to the shakespearean tragedy and the greek tragedy, which served of inspiration for the masterful playwright, as well as the relevance of the play in the actuality, as well as, which message can be extracted from its reading. The bibliographic research was based on renowned theorists. From the English Literature, it was used the theorist Andrew Cecil Bradley (1937), it was also used as a basis the philosopher and thinker Aristotle (2005). It was also used the Brazilian theorist expert in Shakespeare Barbara Heliodora (2001, 2008 e 2014) among others. The result of the research pointed out that many of the elements belonging to the greek tragedy can be found in the analyzed play, the main one being that the actions of the characters come from their nature, but, on the other hand, the play distances itself from the greek tragedy by not presenting chorus and also to showing that the consequences suffered by the hero are not ruled by fate but rather are consequences of their own actions. In addition, it was verified that the play in question is timeless since the theme of the filial ingratitude and the abandonment of the parents in the old age is a constant in the world today.
