| Resumo: | Este trabalho estuda a representação da liberdade feminina no romance Gabriela, Cravo e Canela (1958), do baiano Jorge Amado, buscando relacionar a figura da personagem Gabriela com a liberdade e a opressão social ligadas às mulheres a partir do ato de calçar e descalçar os sapatos. Ainda, nesta pesquisa, há uma breve comparação entre os sapatos de Gabriela e os de Cinderela, personagem do conto homônimo dos irmãos Grimm. Em seguida, efetua-se a análise de Gabriela, como representante da mulher brasileira de meados da década de 1920, evidenciando sua relação com a sociedade da cidade de Ilhéus, na Bahia, bem como questões ligadas a questões étnicas. Os principais teóricos empregados nesta pesquisa são Gilberto Freyre (2003), Affonso Romano de Sant’Anna (1986), Roberto DaMatta (1997), Teófilo de Queiroz Júnior (1975) e Mary Del Priore (1994). Os resultados apresentados revelam duas Gabrielas distintas: a descalça e livre das convenções sociais e a calçada, presa aos valores da sociedade em que vive. |
| Abstract: | This study aims to study the representation of the women freedom in the novel Gabriela, Cravo e Canela (1958), by Jorge Amado. This work intends to show the relationship between the main character, Gabriela, with the freedom and social oppression. Represented by the act of putting shoes on and taking them off. It was made a brief comparison between Gabriela’s shoes and Cinderella’s, character of Grimm’s fairy tale. An analysis was made about the Brazlilian women in mid1925, more specifically, in the town of Ilhéus, and their relationship with the society they belong to seeking a better understanding about how the skin color builds a stereotype which would establish what would be her role in that society. However, the main focus of this study will be on the character Gabriela and her two lives – single and married- and how the social conventions have an influence on her in the two particular/ distinct stages of her life. |
