Abstract

This work has as a purpose to accomplish an analyses about the relations between catholic images and a Umbanda ritual ground and the relations between images and the religion. The problematic on this study consists in knowing how about Catholic elements figure in a Umbanda ritual ground and how it operate in this context. Thus, the goal of this work is to understand how the resignification of catholic elements happens in a non-Catholic context, how the discursive relations about the religion and what are the relations between image and ritual ground. For this goals, the methodology used in this qualitative research look for to describe, understand and explain the obtained information. The methodology procedures approached in this task are: exploratory research, bibliographic search and field research in the shape of a semi-structured interview to be applied on the researched subject in order to do the analyses from the acquired information. The accomplish of this work is based in semiotic and discourse theories. Through the showing it was verified that the discursive formations demand big influence in the negative image that the religion has in society, and that the images has fundamental importance inside this place, because it is through them that the perceptions and comprehension about the believes of the Umbanda happens.
