Triângulo amoroso em A pata da gazela: entre o amor fetiche por um pezinho mimoso e o amor romântico de uma alma pura

Abstract

In order to analyze the style of love used in the novel A Pata da Gazela by José de Alencar, this work searches for theoretical basis in psychoanalysis with Freud (1927) and Bettelheim (1992), in the literature with Candido (1981) and Martins (1977) and in the history with Del Priore (2006, 2011), to analyze the behaviors of the main characters Horácio, Amélia and Leopoldo, identifying the love idealized by the romantics and the feeling fixed in an object or part of the body. In this novel, Horacio has desires for a boot and the foot that fits into it, a feeling that is seen as a fetish, a pathological obsession, a mix of admiration and a determinant of sexual choice - condemned feelings in times of idealization of Romanticism. Leopoldo is the man who is interested in inner beauty, loving Amelia and seeing in her a person of pure soul, to the point of believing that this is true love, considered as something celestial, seen as a feeling without interests. Amelia, a character who is between fetish love and romantic love, is the owner of the little foot that Horacio admires so much and the true love of Leopold. In the plot, Amelia is torn up between the charms of the two boys, studying them and identifying the real intentions of each one and, finally, choosing one of them for the indefectible happy end of the romantic novels. The analysis was first with the character Amelia and its relationship with the two suitors, It was also treated about the relation of the novel with the story Cinderella, later presented the fixation of Horácio by the boot and the consequences of a fetishistic passion. Finally, the characteristics of Leopoldo were analyzed, which make him an ideal of a romantic man.
