A despalatizacão e consequente vocalização em Saudade do Iguaçu - Paraná

Abstract

The study of despalatization in Saudade do Iguaçu had as objective to investigate through the collection of speech data the process of phonological variation despalatization in the city and investigate the social variables that can influence in the process. The present study is part of a project that investigates the phonological processes in the western and southwestern region of Paraná that aims to contribute to sociolinguistic studies in the region. The despalatization is a phonological phenomenon that occurs in the speech of the individual, leading to the vocalization of the palatal sounds [lh] (ex: spoon ~ coié). The implication of this phenomenon may be due to several factors internal and external to the language. The research carried out to study and analyze the despalatization investigated the social variables, that is, the factors external to the language that lead to the development of this phonological process in Saudade do Iguaçu - Paraná. Through data collection, the social variables were investigated: gender, age group and education of the informants to arrive at a possible answer to the guiding questions of the present study. It was investigated if the phenomenon studied would occur with greater frequency in the male group in this community and in the group with more advanced age, with fundamental schooling. For the data collection, two instruments were used: the naming of images and a quiz, which were recorded in audio so that, after, the data analysis was performed. The informants in the research are people who have lived a large part of their lives in the community of saudadense. Informants from the urban and rural region of the municipality were considered. The theoretical and physical structure of the work was guided by the assumptions of one of the study areas of sociolinguistics, that is, the variant sociolinguistics (LABOV, 1972). For the theoretical basis were read texts of authors such as: Fernando Tarallo; William Labov; Maria Cecilia Mollica; Izete Lehmkuhl Coelho, among others. The results show that, in the region investigated, the phenomenon of despalatization occurred in the social groups with the highest age, with fundamental level of education and in the female group.
